How cold does it get in Alaska?

When I moved to St. Croix in the Caribbean, I don't remember having a lot of questions. I knew I couldn't take my car, I didn't have a lot of things to take (I remember wanting to bring my tv, but left it with my friend Ryan). I assumed the weather would be sunny (and it was a good guess). When I decided to move it was 1994 (I think) so I wasn't online and didn't think about looking up info on St. Croix. I pretty much just decided I was going and then moved a month or two later.


As Angela and I consider moving to Bethel, Alaska, I find myself coming up with more and more questions. Where will we live, where will I work, where will we go to church, how cold does it get in Bethel, is there a movie theatre there, how far away is the closest Best Buy? Many of the questions are more out of excitement and wonder than concern. But I'm not finding a ton of answers yet. There are not a ton of sites on the city of Bethel Alaska (if you find a good one, let us know). We have a good friend in Bethel (props to Alessandra) who we are going to be asking a lot of questions, but on my own I've found some answers online, but not all of them. There is a lot of excitement about a move like this for us, but a lot of questions too.

We have found out that there is NOT a movie theatre in Bethel and it is a $400 flight to the nearest one it sounds like. So that is the real concern at this point. Not so much for Angela, but I don't know how I could cope. I guess we can get Netflix up there and movies hit DVD just a few months after the theatre, but what happens when Transformers 2 comes out and I have to fly to Seattle to see Optimus Prime.

All in all, we are more excited than scared about the possibility of the new adventure. I guess I just have a tendency to try and figure out all the angles before we make a decision. Below are a couple of the sites that we found that were somewhat helpful with our questions.
