Things I want to remember

I just found out a few weeks ago that my dad has early onset Alzheimer's.  My family and I are trying to understand more about this and spend as much time as possible with him before it progresses.  It's also got me to start thinking about the memories I have and what I want to make sure I remember.  Not just for my sake, but for my kids and maybe their kids.

I've decided to try and blog/vlog to capture the memories I have of my youth and the memories I am making now with my kids and family.  These posts are really just for me and maybe my family some day if they are interested enough.  But, if you are reading this, maybe they will be relevant to you as well.

The first memory I want to add is from today.

9/6/18 - Seattle, WA
My youngest daughter and middle child, Violetta, is turning 4 years old next week.  For the last year or more she has been playing this game she calls "Lily".  We played this game today and I can't say I love the game, but I really appreciate that Violetta loves this game, because she wants to play it almost every day it seems like.

In this game, Violetta always starts by saying "I am Lily and you are ...".  Typically, I am "Dad" in this game, but sometimes she changes my name to something else and it's usually not a real name.  I've been called "Chomphomper", "Chardash", "Loopy", and a bunch of other crazy, made up names.  Today, however, I was "Ernie".  When she gives me a name (besides Dad), she usually forgets it and asks me to remind her what it is.

The game is really just "pretend", but because I am typically "Dad", it is barely pretend, and the only pretend thing is that her name is Lily instead of Violetta.  It's mostly just a 5-10 minute game and she just plays near me and tells me what to say to her (as Lily).

She has recently also started to play "Puppy", which is the same game, but she's a puppy.  She won't answer to "dog" or "doggie" though, as she is a Puppy and not a dog.  This game has a lot more sloppy licks on my face though.
