Food Glorious Food

We wanted to post some pictures of food we've experienced during the first half of our time in Europe.  Enjoy!

Luke's breakfast in Dublin on their layover from Boston to Rome.  Beans (in the little dish), Toast, Ham, pudding (did not like the pudding).

Angela's Dinner in Normandy (Bayeux), a Chicken, Potato and Egg Crepe.  In France so far we've mostly eaten Crepes and Omellettes (although I don't think we've taken any pictures of our Omellettes).

Angela's FABULOUS Mint Mocha in Normandy!  It was only missing a sparkler!

This sweet little pastry is called a Pepito, and we ate them for breakfast almost every day in Normandy. It is a sweet pastry with chocolate, creme and seemed more like dessert than breakfast.

Luke's Creme Brulee (you can't go to France and not try the Creme Brulee).  It was delicious!

Angela's Crepe Dessert with ice cream, whip cream (called chantilly in France), and almonds...  delicious!

Angela has had many, many Cappucinos during her time in Europe.  This was one she drank in Omaha Beach... one of the more expensive ones and not the best she had.

We ate Himalayan Food today (after church for lunch).  It is very similar to Indian Food (almost the same I think).  These were the spices we used with our Naan bread (spicy - right, Sweet - foreground, yogurty - back left).

Himalayan Chicken Vindaloo, Rice and Naan.

Angela's Ratatouille in France.  It was really good.  Like a really good and flavorful Vegetable stew (I'm sure I'm not doing it justice with that description).

A very interesting Himalayan "after meal" dish that helped cool our mouths down from the spicy Vindalloo and everything.  It tasted like licorice and had grains in it as well.  It was surprisingly good and refreshing.

Luke drinking the local wine in Tuscany in one of the many hill towns we visited.

We drank a lot of Fanta in Europe.  We love Fanta.  Also, they call "Diet Coke", "Coca Light" in Europe.  Luke drank a lot of Coca Light.

In Italy our primary sustenance was Pizza.  We loved all the pasta, but were almost never dissapointed with Pizza and tried all kinds.  We had one with Egg on it, ones with sausage and onion (delicious), all kinds of different flavors...  Pizza was our friend.
To the left of this pizza is what remains of a "Rice Ball" (can't remember what they were called in Rome).  Those Rice Balls were fried and had different ingredients mixed in with the rice.  Delicious!

Angela with her favorite European Pastry (Chocolate Croissant)!

Lunch at a little Italian Cafe.  This was the dessert portion of the meal.  Angela's Chocolaty custard cake thing and her Cappucino, Luke's Cannoli!

We can't believe this is the only picture we have of Gelato from our time in Italy.  We ate so much of it...  I guess we were so focused on the Gelato we always forgot to take pictures...  and so amped up on the sugar, we apparently couldn't even keep the camera from not shaking.

More delicious Pizza in Rome!  (Don't forget the Fanta!)

We were often on the "go" in Italy and would grab a quick sandwich.  They were good, but almost never had any sauces on them (like Mayo, Mustard, etc) so Luke thought they were a little dry.

Most nights in Sorrento, Italy we finished our night off in a little cafe on the main Pallazzo and ate delicious treats, Angela drank Cappucino, Luke drank Espresso (at Angela's urging) and watched the Italians stroll on by.

Sorrento is famous for it's Lemons and Lemon groves, but we must have been way out of season because it was touch to find ripe Lemons.  This is the ripest one we found in a grove and it really looked like a Lime...  maybe it was?

Angela ordered something off the menu in Varenna, Italy (on Lake Como, near the Swiss border) that she wasn't totally sure what it was...  It ended up being toasted bread smothered in Creamed Radish, topped with Brie Cheese and Slimy Bacon...  Out of politeness she ate about a third of it before acting full and offering it to Luke (who politely refused).

We rarely had Appetizers in Europe (as we were on a budget), but couldn't resist the Bruscetta in Rome (toasted bread with olive oil, Tomato and garlic).  We devoured most of it before remembering we were going to take a picture of it.

Luke had Lasagna only a couple times in Italy and can definitely say that Angela's Lasagna is still his favorite!  Angela has an interesting pizza as well...  Not sure what the ingredients were though.

Angela tried the delicious Watermelon in Rome!  She loved it!

We hope to take more pictures of food during the last month of our trip and will post more when we get a chance.
